 Artist Profile
To Fiona Kennedy, art is the expression of experiences through paint instead of words. Whether it is a fleeting moment or an enduring transformation, it is the emotion of events that transpire in her life which she tries to capture and express with the passion of her signature style. Thus each painting represents a step towards a greater understanding of herself, of people and of the world.
Fiona comes from a line of artists and draws upon the creativeness of her Irish, Scottish and Spanish background to imbue each of her artworks with a piece of herself. Her influences are many and varied – from her grandmother’s paintings of the 1930’s to Mirka Mora and Freda and the imagery of writers such as Lewis Carroll. However, it is the people around Fiona and her love of nature that provide much of the inspiration for her work. In some of her most recent works Fiona’s unique interpretations have captured the power and majesty of a wedge-tail eagle, the colour and raucous nature of galahs in flight and the timeless wonder of the universe.
In 2006, Fiona’s work was selected from a small number of artists to represent Australian contemporary art at The Australian Arts Fest, an exhibition held at the Academy of Spherical Arts in Toronto, Canada. All Fiona’s paintings were sold opening night. Although Fiona is based in Inverloch on Victoria’s southern coastline, her work is gaining worldwide recognition with paintings being commissioned and purchased from Germany, France, The Netherlands, London Japan, and The United States.
